I’m a firm believer in “if you don’t ask, the answers always ‘no.” I used to live more true to this and quite openly would ask for things I wanted. You wouldn’t believe the amount of free food I’ve received! Some incredible cupcakes by Laguna Beach for one! Anyways, this week I’ve been reminded of how freeing this way of living is.

You were born for so much more than the day to day. By all means, work your butt off for the things you have. Sometimes we ask for things that have no monetary value, and yet are far more precious. Ask for mom to stay on the phone with you one more minute and remember the way she used to run her fingers through your hair when you were a little girl. Ask that long lost girl friend to meet you out for coffee. Ask your partner to watch the kids for 30 minutes while you have a bubble bath in peace. It may be inconvenient, or even weird to ask for something out of the blue. But if you want it, it’s worth asking for.

I can’t help but think of some of my favorite fear fighting quotes, because quite honestly it’s the fear of rejection that keeps us from asking. And I don’t want to live that way any more! One that really spoke to me was “it’s ok to be scared. Being scared means you’re about to do something really, really brave.” Or, “you get in life what you have the courage to ask for.” And one last favorite, “the fears we don’t face become our limits.” Don’t limit yourself by the very words (spoken and unspoken) of your mouth.

I’m facing my fears right with you. I’ll tell you this, it is scary at first. But oh, the rewards of simply knowing you did the thing you feared most. May you live in that satisfaction <3
